Dolphins travel in Large Groups
When you are out at sea, you won´t encounter just one dolphin as they travel in large groups, so if you are lucky to spot a dolphin be on the watch for more. On several of our catamaran trips, we have encounter large groups of 30 to 60 dolphins all swimming together and jumping out of the water to put on a show as these dolphins do seem to enjoy showing off their ability to jump out of the water at very high speeds.
How do we spot dolphins out at Sea?
The pacific ocean is enormous and finding dolphins is not so much a matter of luck as it is knowing how the ocean works as there are several key sings that you need to be on the look out. When we are sailing around the Manuel Antonio Coast, we are looking for any marine activity such as Pelicans flying in a circle around a specific area which typically indicates there are bate fish which are small in size and the perfect meal for dolphins.
Our crew has special binoculars which help them to spot any activity that indicates there could be a group of dolphins enjoying a nice meal which makes for a perfect opportunity for us to get up close and view either the Bottlenose dolphins or the Spotted Dolphins.
